Biography / Achievements Of Prof. Ozo-Mekuri Ndimele.







Early life and education

Ndimele was born 13 August 1963 at Akirika, Etche Local Government Area in Rivers State in Nigeria. He had his secondary education at St. Joseph's Secondary School. He obtained a bachelor's degree at University of Port Harcourt and earned his PhD in comparative syntax in 1991 at the same institution.



Career

He served as acting head of the Department for Linguistic and Communication Studies from 1998 to 2005. He became a professor in Comparative Grammar and Communication at the University of Port Harcourt in 2006, and has also served as Dean of the Faculty of Humanities (2010–2014) at the University of Port Harcourt.




Publications

He has written journals and over 30 books. The books he wrote includes; The Principles & Parameters of Universal Grammar, An Advanced English Grammar & Usage, Semantics and the Frontiers of Communication, Morphology & Syntax, Readings on Language, A Concise Grammar and Lexicon of Echie, Four Decades in the Study of Languages & Linguistics in Nigeria, In the Linguistic Paradise, Languages and Cultures in Nigeria, ICT, Globalization & the Study of Languages in Africa.




Affiliations

Ndimele is the national president of Linguistic Association of Nigeria (2003-2009) and the current substantive president of the English Language Association of Nigeria. He was a member of the Rivers State scholarship board, Transition committee of administration.


Personal life

He is married to Mrs. Joy Adanma Ndimele and has a son and three daughters





He is a distinguished academician and one of the best brains in comparative syntax, comparative grammar and communication in Nigeria and diaspora.
His wide research and scholarly contributions are second to none.




                                                       ACHIEVEMENTS.

This man, no doubts, came on the scene as the Vice chancellor of the Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, Port Harcourt with lots of mentionable and innumerable achievements. 


To mention but a few, this man has over the years transformed the landscape of the institution.

  1. His administration marked the commencement and subsequent approval of the postgraduate program in the school. 
  2. Monumental infrastructural developments on campus. His administration brought about the building of a world-class female hostel by Pastor David Ibiyeome of Salvation Ministries.
  3. Friendly atmosphere between the school management and students.
  4.  introduction of VC-Students monthly interactive session.
  5.  Establishment of Ajuru Paint Factory.
  6. Construction of the senior staff club.
  7. Construction of the Nyesom Wike Center of Excellence.
  8. Renamed the university library in honor of Mrs. Dame Patience Goodluck Ebele Jonathan.
  9. Introduction of honorary award and price to encourage students with CGPA of 4.00 and above.
  10. Interactive fora and social media platforms with students. (The most social media friendly Vice Chancellor)
  11. Seasoned leadership and administrative qualities that have gained the institution her global visibility currently, among other monumental innovations and milestones too numerous to enumerate.

Indeed, Professor Ozo-Mekuri is not just a Professor of national and global repute, but also, a seasoned administrator whose wealth of leadership skills and experience have in no small measure been instrumental to the good fortunes the institution has over the years recorded and enjoyed under his administration.
